The tire-pneumatic cylinder is used as part of a tire-pneumatic coupling in the structures of ship and port equipment, where in the process of work it is necessary to connect and disconnect the leading and driven parts to transfer torque to the working body or is an element by which the speed is switched.

The design of the tire-pneumatic cylinder
The tire-pneumatic cylinder for ships and ports is an elastic friction ring element of oval cross-section.

It consists of an inner rubber chamber with a multilayer lining made of cord (rubberized fabric) and an outer layer of rubber that protects the cord from mechanical damage and other environmental influences.

Metal pads with friction (brake) pads are attached to the inner cylindrical surface of the tire-pneumatic cylinder with the help of smooth studs. The pins are passed through the holes in the tread part of the cylinder and fixed with cotter pins.

Fastening of the tire-pneumatic cylinder for ships to the outer steel rim of the coupling is carried out using screws, for this purpose metal strips with threaded holes are vulcanized along the outer cylindrical surface of the cylinder.

The design of the cylinders produced by Uralshina LLC provides for:

  •  possibility of remote control, switching on (off) the clutch on the go;
  •  vibration damping, significant noise reduction;
  •  high efficiency in difficult conditions of ship installations

Operation concept

The compressed air enters the tire-pneumatic cylinder through the nipple, which expands and covers the brake pulley located inside the clutch, mounted on a key on one of the shafts, with friction pads.

On the second of the connected shafts, also on the key, the hub of the disk is planted, to which the edge of the outer rim of the coupling is attached with the help of bolts.

As a result of friction between the friction pads and the pulley, the drive shaft is coupled to the driven shaft and thereby the unit unit or the entire unit as a whole is switched on.
